Wells-next-the-Sea is one of the most characterful small harbour towns on the north Norfolk coast — its name reflecting that the sea has actually receded over the centuries, leaving a long channel out to the beach huts and pine-backed dunes that are among the most photographed in England. The Norfolk Coast Path runs through, with Holkham’s vast beach just to the west.
An exceptionally atmospheric harbour town with excellent fish and chips and a miniature railway to the beach, Wells-next-the-Sea is one of the finest coastal walking bases in Norfolk, combining harbour character with outstanding dune and saltmarsh walking.
