Barmouth is one of Wales’s most dramatically situated seaside towns — backed by steep wooded crags and fronted by the wide Mawddach Estuary, with a long sandy beach stretching south. Dinas Oleu, the rocky headland above the town, was the very first property acquired by the National Trust in 1895.

A classic Welsh bucket-and-spade resort with a magnificent setting, Barmouth makes an excellent and affordable base for both coastal and mountain walking. The Mawddach Trail railway path across the estuary is one of the finest easy walks in Wales.
