Tenterden is the most handsome town in the Kentish Weald — a broad, tree-lined high street of Georgian buildings and the famous Kent and East Sussex Railway, surrounded by the apple orchards and hop gardens of the High Weald. The walking south towards Rye and the Royal Military Canal is excellent.

A lovely, unhurried town with good independent shops and the heritage steam railway, Tenterden is a fine base for the quieter Weald walking between the North Downs and the Kent coast.
