🚗MachynllethStart Point

Machynlleth is the ancient capital of Wales — the town where Owain Glyndŵr held his parliament in 1404 — and it sits in the beautiful Dyfi Valley where the hills of southern Snowdonia meet the moorlands of mid Wales. Glyndŵr’s Way long-distance path passes through, and the Centre for Alternative Technology is just up the valley.

A lively, independent-minded small town with good food and an arts scene, Machynlleth is an excellent and very Welsh walking base. The Dyfi Osprey Project just north of town is a bonus for wildlife watchers.
