Chesterfield is best known for its twisted church spire but sits on the eastern edge of the Peak District with some surprisingly good walking nearby. The Linacre Reservoirs, just four miles west, offer beautiful woodland walking, while the Chesterfield Canal towpath provides easy waterside walking to the east.
A large, practical market town with direct rail access from Sheffield and Nottingham, Chesterfield is a useful and affordable base for the eastern Dark Peak and the gentler countryside of north-east Derbyshire.
