🚗BerkhamstedStart Point

Berkhamsted is a handsome Hertfordshire town with a ruined Norman castle and immediate access to the magnificent Ashridge Estate — 5,000 acres of ancient beech woodland and chalk downland managed by the National Trust, with Ivinghoe Beacon at its northern tip marking the start of the Ridgeway national trail.

A well-connected commuter town with direct rail access from London Euston, Berkhamsted makes an excellent Chiltern Hills walking base, with the Ashridge Estate offering some of the finest ancient woodland walking in southern England.
