Matlock and Matlock Bath occupy a dramatic limestone gorge on the River Derwent, where the Peak District meets the rolling countryside of east Derbyshire. The towering limestone crags above Matlock Bath give a surprisingly Alpine feel, and the surrounding area is rich in walking of all kinds.

Matlock offers good accommodation and services with access to the southern White Peak, Derwent Valley Heritage Way and the approach to the Limestone Way, making it a useful southern gateway to the Peak District.
