Montrose is a handsome east coast town built on a narrow strip of land between the North Sea and the Montrose Basin — a large tidal lagoon that is one of Scotland’s most important nature reserves for wading birds and wildfowl. The Angus Coastal Path passes through, with excellent walking north to Arbroath and south to St Cyrus.

A dignified and historically interesting town with a wide high street, Montrose makes a good base for the Angus coast and the Montrose Basin birdwatching, with excellent walking in both directions along the Angus Coastal Path.
