Inveraray is one of Scotland’s most striking small towns — a perfect eighteenth-century planned settlement on the shore of Loch Fyne, dominated by its castle and white-painted architecture. The walking above the town in the surrounding Argyll hills is surprisingly good.

A handsome, very Scottish small town with a good hotel and castle visitor attraction, Inveraray makes a pleasant night stop on the drive north or a base for the quieter Argyll hills. The Cowal Way passes nearby.
