Barry is a large Vale of Glamorgan town with an island fairground and a surprising stretch of excellent coastal walking on its doorstep. Porthkerry Country Park — a deep wooded valley running down to a pebble beach — is on the western edge of town, and the Glamorgan Heritage Coast begins just beyond.

A busy town with good train connections from Cardiff, Barry is a practical and affordable base for the Glamorgan Heritage Coast — a landscape of carboniferous limestone cliffs, wild flowers and rock pools that is one of the most underrated coastal walks in Wales.
