🚗AmblesideStart Point

Ambleside is the beating heart of the Lake District walking scene — a compact, energetic town at the head of Windermere surrounded on all sides by fells. From the gentle paths above the town to the demanding Fairfield Horseshoe, the walking options are extraordinary and the town’s services are among the best in the national park.

With its concentration of outdoor shops, B&Bs, hostels and restaurants, Ambleside is the natural base for Lake District walking. The Fairfield Horseshoe departs from the town itself, and Langdale, Coniston and Grasmere are all within easy reach.
