Burford is often called the gateway to the Cotswolds — a single magnificent high street of golden stone buildings sloping down to a medieval bridge over the River Windrush. The Windrush Way long-distance path begins here, and the ancient Wychwood Forest, a remnant of the royal hunting forest, lies just to the east.
