Exe Valley Way
A river valley walk between sea and source, following the River Exe from the Exe Estuary at Starcross up onto Exmoor at Exford.
Walking the Exe Valley Way is a river valley walk between sea and source along the beautiful River Exe. It is a long distance route for walkers exploring the length of this valley, and at 52 miles (84 km) it stretches from the South West Coast Path National Trail on the Exe Estuary at Starcross to the village of Exford on the high land of Exmoor National Park.
From Starcross the route follows the valley north through Bickleigh, Tiverton, Bampton, Exebridge and Dulverton, then climbs onto Exmoor via Hawkridge and Withypool to finish at Exford. A variant continues to Exe Head, the source of the river, linking via the Two Moors Way to Simonsbath.
The route is waymarked with named discs bearing a stylised V symbol, although these are not used on the moorland section. It is described in an Explore Devon route description (2012), which is available as a free download.
