Wasdale is the most dramatic and remote valley in the Lake District — home to England’s deepest lake (Wast Water), its highest mountain (Scafell Pike) and arguably its most spectacular scree slopes plunging directly into the water. The classic ascent of Scafell Pike from Wasdale Head is the shortest and most popular route to the summit.
A tiny, isolated hamlet at the head of England’s most dramatic valley, Wasdale Head has very limited accommodation but offers unparalleled access to the highest and most rugged Lakeland fells. The drive in alone, alongside Wast Water’s screes, is one of the great approaches in English mountain country.
