Launceston is the historic gateway to Cornwall, a walled market town with a Norman castle crowning its hill and the Tamar Valley stretching away to the east. It sits between two exceptional walking landscapes — the Tamar Valley AONB to the east and the northern fringe of Bodmin Moor to the west.

A useful and underused walking base for the Cornwall–Devon border country, Launceston combines a genuine historic town centre with excellent access to the Tamar Valley and Bodmin Moor.
