Patterdale sits at the southern end of Ullswater and is the starting point for the most famous walk in England — Helvellyn via Striding Edge. The village is small and unspoiled, with Place Fell rising directly to the east and the full length of Ullswater stretching north.
A tiny, perfectly placed walking village with limited but excellent accommodation, Patterdale is one of the finest bases in the Lake District for serious fell walking. The Ullswater Steamers service allows linear walks back along the lake.
