Hawes is the highest market town in Yorkshire, sitting at the head of Wensleydale at over 260 metres. The Pennine Way passes through, and the surrounding fells — Dodd Fell, Great Shunner Fell, Lovely Seat — offer serious moorland walking in one of the quietest corners of the Dales.
High, exposed and wonderful in clear weather, Hawes is a serious walkers’ town — a proper Dales market settlement where the Dales Countryside Museum and the Wensleydale Creamery sit alongside quality walking access to some of the most remote country in northern England.
