Tring sits at the foot of the Chiltern Hills with the Tring Reservoirs — a chain of canal feeder reservoirs now a major nature reserve — immediately south of the town, and the magnificent National Trust Ashridge Estate, with its ancient beech woodland and chalk downland, just a few miles north-east. The Ridgeway national trail passes directly through Tring.
A well-served Chiltern town with a direct train from London Euston, Tring makes an excellent gateway walking base for the Chiltern Hills, combining wetland nature reserve walking with classic chalk downland and beech woodland on the Ridgeway.
