🚗NewtownStart Point

Newtown is the largest town in mid Wales — a working, unpretentious textile and market town on the River Severn, and the birthplace of Robert Owen the social reformer. Glyndŵr’s Way long-distance path passes through, and the Kerry Ridgeway — an ancient drove road along a moorland ridge — begins just south of town.

A practical mid-Wales town with good shops and rail connections, Newtown is the most convenient base in central Powys for Glyndŵr’s Way walking and the quiet but rewarding hills of the upper Severn valley.
