Leyburn is the main market town of central Wensleydale, with Leyburn Shawl — a limestone terrace walk along the valley side — giving some of the finest views in the dale. Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was once imprisoned, lies a few miles to the west, and Penhill rises distinctively to the south.
A characterful market town with the famous Wensleydale Creamery nearby and exceptional valley views from the Shawl, Leyburn makes an excellent base for central Wensleydale and a useful stop on the heritage Wensleydale Railway.
