🚗Castle DouglasStart Point

Castle Douglas is Dumfries and Galloway’s food town — a pleasant market town on the southern shore of Carlingwark Loch, with Threave Castle just two miles west and the wild Galloway Hills rising to the north. The Southern Upland Way passes nearby on its course from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath.

A well-served, pleasant market town with a good range of independent food shops and accommodation, Castle Douglas makes an excellent and central Galloway walking base — convenient for both the Galloway Hills and the Solway Coast.
