Abergavenny calls itself the Gateway to Wales, and it is certainly the finest gateway to the Brecon Beacons. The town is ringed by three distinctive hills — the Blorenge, the Sugar Loaf and the Skirrid Fawr — each offering a rewarding half-day walk from the town centre, and the Black Mountains rise beyond.

One of Wales’s finest food and walking towns, Abergavenny has been transformed by its food festival and now offers an excellent range of restaurants, cafés and accommodation alongside its superb walking setting between the hills.
