Stamford is frequently cited as England’s most beautiful stone town — a place of medieval churches and Georgian townhouses built entirely in Lincolnshire limestone. The surrounding countryside is gently rolling, with Burghley Park on the doorstep and Rutland Water just four miles west.

A supremely handsome town with good restaurants, Stamford makes an excellent and often overlooked walking base for the limestone belt between the Midlands and East Anglia.
