Gloucestershire Way
From Chepstow to Tewkesbury through the Forest of Dean, the Severn Plain and the Cotswolds.
A route through the Forest of Dean, Severn Plain and Cotswolds linking the Wye Valley Walk and Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail to the Severn, Cotswold, Oxfordshire and Heart of England Ways. The guide also provides details of a link from Tewkesbury to the Worcestershire Way. See also Three Choirs Way.
The route near Stow on the Wold has been improved by the construction of a footpath to the west of Stow Hill. This is a safety measure to allow walkers to cross the Fosse Way at the top of the hill where there is a central refuge, rather than have to cross half way down where there are three lanes of fast moving traffic.
Route notes from the LDWA. Work to realign the A417 between the Air Balloon and Cowley roundabouts is under way and scheduled to continue until 2028. The Gloucestershire Way will cross the re-designated route by a new footbridge. The LDWA also reported in December 2022 that the path beside the River Severn into Gloucester was in poor condition, and suggested a road diversion between SO 82448 19046 and SO 82866 20875. Check current conditions before you go.
