🚗InvernessStart Point

Inverness is the capital of the Highlands and the northern terminus of the Great Glen Way — a 73-mile long-distance route following the Caledonian Canal and the Great Glen south-west to Fort William. The city sits at the mouth of the Beauly Firth and is surrounded by hills, forests and the great Highland landscape in every direction.

A lively, well-served city with excellent hotels, restaurants and transport connections to the rest of Scotland, Inverness is the most practical base in the northern Highlands and a natural starting point for the Great Glen Way.
