Caernarfon is one of the most dramatically sited towns in Wales — a medieval walled town on the Menai Strait dominated by Edward I’s great castle, with the mountains of Snowdonia rising immediately to the east and the Llŷn Peninsula stretching away to the south-west. The Wales Coast Path passes through, and the Lôn Las Cymru long-distance cycling and walking route begins here.
A magnificent walled town with a World Heritage castle, good restaurants and excellent access to both mountains and coast, Caernarfon makes a superb North Wales walking base — particularly for those who want to combine high mountain walking with coastal and lowland routes.
