Monmouth is a handsome market town at the confluence of the Monnow and Wye rivers, with a medieval fortified bridge gate — the only one remaining in Britain — and an excellent position at the junction of Offa’s Dyke Path and the Wye Valley Walk. The Forest of Dean lies just across the river to the east.
