🚗OkehamptonStart Point

Okehampton sits at the northern edge of Dartmoor and is the best starting point for the highest ground on the moor. Yes Tor and High Willhays — Dartmoor’s two highest tors, both over 600 metres — are within comfortable reach, while the Tarka Trail passes through the town on its 180-mile figure-of-eight route.

A solid market town with a good youth hostel, Okehampton is a practical and well-placed base for those wanting to tackle the wilder northern Dartmoor without the longer approaches from the south. The Dartmoor Sunday Rover bus service operates in summer.
