🚗ButtermereStart Point

Buttermere is widely considered the most beautiful valley in the Lake District — a perfect combination of lake, fell and crag that captivated Alfred Wainwright above all other places, and where his ashes were eventually scattered on Haystacks. The lakeshore circuit is one of the finest easy walks in England.

A tiny, perfectly placed hamlet with limited accommodation, Buttermere demands either booking well ahead or a day visit from Keswick — but the rewards are among the greatest in the entire Lake District, with Haystacks giving Wainwright’s favourite view in all of Lakeland.
