Helston is the gateway to the Lizard Peninsula — mainland Britain’s most southerly point — and sits beside Loe Pool, Cornwall’s largest natural freshwater lake, separated from the sea by a remarkable shingle bar called Loe Bar. The South West Coast Path is a short distance away, with outstanding walking towards Mullion and the Lizard Point.

A practical market town and the gateway to the dramatic Lizard Peninsula, Helston makes a useful base for exploring mainland Britain’s most southerly coastline, combining serpentine rock cliffs, secluded coves and the unique Lizard heathland.
