Castlewellan is a handsome planned market town in the foothills of the Mournes, with one of Ireland’s finest arboretums in Castlewellan Forest Park immediately behind the town. Slieve Croob — the highest point of the Dromara Hills — rises to the north, and the main Mourne range is just a short drive south.

A well-preserved planned town with a superb forest park and good accommodation, Castlewellan makes an excellent and central base for both the Mourne Mountains and the quieter Dromara Hills to the north.
