Larne is the southern gateway to the Glens of Antrim — a busy port town on Larne Lough with the famous Antrim Coast Road beginning just north of the town, and the Sallagh Braes, a dramatic escarpment of basalt cliffs, rising above Ballygally just to the north. The Black Cave Tunnel railway walks along the shore are excellent.
A practical and well-connected port town with regular ferries to Cairnryan in Scotland, Larne is the most accessible starting point for the Antrim Coast Road and makes a useful base for day walks into the southern Glens.
