Elgin is the capital of Moray — a handsome cathedral city on the fertile Laigh of Moray, with the ruins of one of Scotland’s finest medieval cathedrals at its heart. The Moray Coast Trail runs just ten miles north through a fascinating sequence of fishing villages, while the Speyside Way and Ben Rinnes lie to the south.

A well-served city with good accommodation and the best independent food shops in Moray, Elgin makes an excellent and central base for the Moray Coast Trail, Speyside and the eastern Cairngorms fringe.
