Oban is the gateway to the Hebrides — a busy, characterful port town on a perfect natural bay, with the Victorian folly of McCaig’s Tower overlooking everything from the hill above. The island of Kerrera, reached by a short ferry, gives outstanding circular walking with views back across the bay to the mainland hills.
A lively port town with excellent seafood, good hotels and ferry connections to Mull, Islay, Colonsay and the smaller Hebrides, Oban is one of Scotland’s most enjoyable walking bases — combining fine town walking with easy island and coastal exploration.
