Brecon is the main market town of the Brecon Beacons National Park — a busy, well-served town on the confluence of the Usk and Honddu rivers. Pen y Fan, the highest peak in southern Britain, can be reached directly from the town on the northern approach via Cwm Gwdi, and the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal towpath provides easy waterside walking.
A sizeable, practical town with excellent outdoor shops, good accommodation and the National Park visitor centre, Brecon makes the most accessible and best-served base for the central Brecon Beacons, including the most popular routes up Pen y Fan.
