Builth Wells is the main market town of the upper Wye Valley — a no-nonsense Welsh market town famous for the Royal Welsh Show, surrounded by the heather moorland of Mynydd Epynt to the south and the Cambrian Mountains to the west. The Wye Valley Walk passes through, and Llanwrtyd Wells — the smallest town in Britain and home of the World Bog Snorkelling Championships — is just eight miles west.

A practical mid-Wales market town with good accommodation during the Royal Welsh, Builth Wells makes a useful base for the upper Wye Valley and the surrounding moorland — quiet, very Welsh, and ideal for those seeking genuine remoteness.
