Market Rasen sits at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds — a gentle chalk ridge that rises to over 160 metres and was the birthplace landscape of Alfred Lord Tennyson, who memorably described its ‘long fields of barley and of rye’. The Viking Way long-distance path passes through, and Willingham Forest offers good waymarked walking.

A pleasant Wolds market town with a famous racecourse and the Viking Way passing through, Market Rasen makes a good base for exploring the gently rolling Lincolnshire Wolds — one of England’s most overlooked chalk landscapes.
