Grantham is a handsome market town on the Lincolnshire Edge — the limestone escarpment that runs north-south through the county — and makes a surprisingly good walking base. Belvoir Castle, perched dramatically on a ridge above the Vale of Belvoir, is just eight miles west, and the Viking Way long-distance path passes through the town.

A large market town with good train connections on the East Midlands Main Line, Grantham is a practical and underused base for the southern Lincolnshire limestone country and the Vale of Belvoir.
