Whitstable is one of England’s most characterful small seaside towns — famous for its oysters, its weatherboard cottages and its long shingle beach — and it sits on the North Kent coast where the Saxon Shore Way threads east towards Faversham and west towards Herne Bay. The ancient Blean Woodlands immediately inland are among the largest ancient woodland complexes in England.
A lively, independent-spirited seaside town with excellent seafood restaurants and a thriving arts scene, Whitstable makes a very enjoyable walking base for the North Kent coast and the Blean Woodlands.
