Helmsley is the finest village in the North York Moors — a perfect market square, a ruined castle and the start of the Cleveland Way national trail, which begins here and travels 110 miles to Filey. Rievaulx Abbey, one of England’s greatest monastic ruins, is just three miles west along the river.
A simply beautiful village with exceptional accommodation, good restaurants and the Cleveland Way starting from the castle, Helmsley is one of the finest walking bases in northern England. The drive up onto the Hambleton Hills gives immediate access to wide moorland walking.
