Settle is a market town at the foot of the Ribble Valley, below the spectacular limestone escarpment of Attermire Scar, and the best entry point for the southern Three Peaks. Pen-y-ghent — the smallest and most elegant of the three — rises just six miles to the north.

A solid, traditional Dales market town, Settle has good accommodation and makes a particularly good base for those arriving by the famous Settle–Carlisle railway, one of the finest scenic rail journeys in England.
