Monmouth is a handsome market town at the confluence of the Monnow and Wye rivers, with a medieval fortified bridge gate — the only one remaining in Britain — and an excellent position at the junction of Offa’s Dyke Path and the Wye Valley Walk. The Forest of Dean lies just across the river to the east.
An extremely well-placed walking town with good accommodation and restaurants, Monmouth sits at the junction of two national trails and within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and the Forest of Dean.
