Walking in Glasgow
Discover walking in Glasgow — from the River Clyde and Kelvin Walkway to Glasgow Green, Pollok Country Park and the hills just beyond the city.
Glasgow has more green space than many visitors expect, and its rivers and canals give long walking routes through the city, with the Campsie Fells, Loch Lomond and the West Highland Way a short journey away.
The Clyde and the Kelvin. The Clyde Walkway follows the river for around 40 miles from Glasgow Green to the Falls of Clyde at New Lanark, and the Kelvin Walkway follows the River Kelvin through the West End, past the Botanic Gardens and Kelvingrove Park.
Parks and the city. Glasgow Green, Pollok Country Park, Queen’s Park and Cathkin Braes give easy walking with views of the city, and the Necropolis gives a short but steep climb above the cathedral.
Beyond the city. The Forth and Clyde Canal runs north of the centre, and the West Highland Way begins at Milngavie, on the northern edge of the city.
Riverside paths can flood after heavy rain, and some stretches are quiet in the evening, so choose routes with other people about.
