Merseyside combines big-city waterfront walking with surprisingly wild coast. Liverpool’s docks, parks and the Mersey shore give easy urban routes, while across the river the Wirral offers country parks, the Wirral Way and the model village of Port Sunlight. To the north, the Sefton coast around Formby and Ainsdale has sand dunes, pinewoods and wide beaches, and much of it is easy, level walking.
