Conwy County Borough takes in the northern half of Eryri (Snowdonia) and a stretch of the north Wales coast, so a single weekend can include high mountain routes, forest trails and Victorian seaside promenades.

Betws-y-Coed and Eryri. Betws-y-Coed is the main walking base, with the Gwydyr Forest on its doorstep and the Swallow Falls close by. Further up the valley, Capel Curig is the starting point for Moel Siabod, and the Carneddau range to the north, home to wild ponies, has some of the quietest high ground in Wales.

Llandudno and Conwy. Llandudno sits between two headlands, and the Great Orme has a network of paths with views over the Irish Sea, along with a tramway, a copper mine and a herd of wild goats. Conwy has a 13th-century castle and town walls, with Conwy Mountain rising behind it for a short, rewarding climb.

Colwyn Bay. The seafront and the woodland of Eirias Park provide easy walking, with the Wales Coast Path running along the shore.

Mountain weather can change quickly, so carry waterproofs and a map on the higher routes, and keep clear of cliff edges on the Orme.
