This route takes you from the front door of the Peacock through Rowsley village to the top of Coombs Valley with fabulous views towards Bakewell to the north and Matlock to the south. Then up through Manners Wood which is especially beautiful when the bluebells are out in late April. It takes you through Calton Pastures; past the ornate Russian Cottage (inspired by the gift of a model of a Russian farm to the 6th Duke of Devonshire in 1855 from the brother of Tsar Nicholas of Russia); through Calton Lees village and back along the Derwent river valley to Rowsley and the Peacock. This route is entirely off road and can be extended to include more of Manners wood and / or Chatsworth House.
