This is a fabulous route that follows the entire course of the Lathkill river and back to the Peacock. This is a bit of an expedition, 13 km long but worth it. Take a taxi from the Peacock and ask them to drop you at the head of Lathkill Dale at Monyash. Follow the dale down looking out for orchids in the summer and in winter the cave where the spring gushes water and is the source of the river. Through the gorge and past old lead mine ruins to Over Haddon which has an excellent pub, The Lathkill which prides itself on its real ale. Then through picturesque Alport up to Stanton in Peak and back to the Peacock.
