The walk starts and ends at the village of Rothbury, which is situated on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. From there, the trail heads out along a gentle incline, passing through fields and woodlands before reaching the picturesque Coquet Valley.
The path then follows the River Coquet for a short while before branching off and heading up the hill towards the Headstone, a large rock formation that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. From the top of the Headstone, you can see for miles in every direction, with panoramic views of the hills, valleys, and forests of Northumberland.
After taking in the views from the Headstone, the trail then descends back down to the Coquet Valley, passing by charming farms and picturesque cottages along the way. You’ll also have the chance to spot wildlife such as deer, otters, and a variety of bird species.
Finally, the walk takes you back to Rothbury, where you can explore the charming village and enjoy a meal or a drink at one of the many cafes or pubs in the area.
